THE FIVE LIFE STAGES OF MOVING

Every month, we’re inside hundreds of homes across North Florida.

When you’re this close to people during big life changes, patterns start to emerge. This month, it’s clear:

There are 5 major life stages that we see our clients move through. Each stage inspires a different approach to moving.

In April, our calendar is filled with clients in Life Stage #4. This stage gives our team an opportunity to deliver one of the smoothest moving experiences that we provide.

THE 1ST LIFE STAGE: PIZZA, BEER, & BUDDIES

This is the DIY phase. You call your friends, you order the pizza to sweeten the deal, and you hope someone you know owns a truck. It’s scrappy, and it works for this season of life. It isn’t until the next stage that you start to want more support.

THE 2ND LIFE STAGE: BOXES, NOT COUCHES

During this phase you still pack and move all of your small stuff. You box up and transport the manageable items on your own.

But, when it comes to bulky or difficult items such as furniture, appliances, or things you need disassembled, you call our movers to take care of it.

THE 3RD LIFE STAGE: PACK & POINT

At this stage you still want to take care of packing up your belongings on your own. That being said, you’re ready to be hands-off and kicked back on moving day.

Day-of, our guys handle the moving for you while you simply point and direct where things go. This makes your moving experience far easier.

THE 4TH LIFE STAGE: SIT BACK & RELAX

Now we’re into some truly stress-free territory.

This phase is the one we’re seeing most of in April. It’s a 100% hands-off preference for people who are ready for a white-glove experience.

You don’t pack. You don’t lift. You don’t problem-solve. We step in to take care of everything:

  • Packing
  • Disassembly
  • Transport
  • Assembly
  • Placement
  • Often full unpacking

These moves are often multi-day.

Along the way, you’re lightly directing as needed. That’s it.

The Seasonal Rhythm:

While families are holding off until summer to time their transitions, our April calendar is seeing adults without children, couples with demanding schedules, and clients in a later season of life.

All in all, this life stage is filled with people who see their time as precious and prefer personal ease.

THE 5TH LIFE STAGE: LIGHTEN THE LOAD

Finally, you’ve made it to the simplification era.

You are prioritizing less clutter and more clarity in your space. You’re hiring us to not only handle the entire move like in Stage #4, but you also want us to help reduce what comes with you.

Often, this includes taking no longer needed items such as furniture, clothing, artwork and household overflow to a local donation center on your behalf.

THE PATTERN & BEYOND

More and more, we’re seeing people choose ease over effort. The preference for less stress and more time guides them to say yes to more support during big life transitions.

That being said, you don’t need to fit into a category to be met exactly where you are. No matter what stage of life you’re in, from DIY to fully hands-off, we’re here to support how you move.

We’ll see you next month for the upcoming edition of The Move Report Newsletter.

If a move is on your horizon, our team is here to help. When you’re ready, we’re ready.

How To Move Home Gym Equipment: 5 Tips For A Stress-Free Move

Having a fully equipped home gym is a great way to save on membership fees and make staying in shape more convenient. However, when it comes time to move house, owning home gym equipment will add an extra layer of complexity to your move. From treadmills and benches to squat racks and weight plates, fitness equipment is often heavy, bulky, and awkward to carry. Without the right approach, it can be very easy to damage something or misplace parts. Fortunately, our Gainesville movers are here to help prevent that!

For over 19 years, UF Mover Guys has provided professional moving services to homeowners and businesses throughout Gainesville and the greater North Central Florida area. Below, our trusted local movers share five tips for moving with home gym equipment. Ready to book your move? Contact us today to request a free quote!

1. Plan A Pathway Ahead Of Time

Before attempting to carry bulky fitness equipment out of your home, take the time to map out your route first. Walk through your home and identify the safest, most direct route from your home gym to the moving truck. Try to choose a route that avoids obstacles such as tight corners, narrow doorways, stairs, and low ceilings. Also, whenever possible, measure doorway and hallway dimensions to ensure bulky pieces of equipment will fit. Planning a pathway in advance will help protect your walls, floors, and gym equipment from accidental damage and save you considerable effort.

2. Disassemble Equipment Whenever Possible

Always be sure to disassemble large or awkwardly-shaped gym equipment before attempting to move it. Large pieces of gym equipment are often designed to come apart so they’re easier to transport. Even if your equipment doesn’t fully disassemble, remove detachable components like arms, seats, and weight stacks whenever possible. Disassembling machines and squat racks will make them safer to carry, easier to maneuver, and simpler to fit into the moving truck.  As you disassemble equipment, make an effort to store screws, bolts, and other small pieces in labeled plastic bags. Keeping everything organized will save you significant time and energy when it’s time for reassembly.

3. Take Photos Before Disassembling Equipment

Speaking of saving you time and energy when it comes to reassembly: take pictures! Taking photos of your home gym equipment before you remove any parts will make putting it back together later much simpler. These photos can serve as a visual guide during reassembly, helping you remember exactly where everything goes. Even if you still have the original instruction manual, taking pictures of your specific setup can still be hugely beneficial. Just be sure to capture photos from multiple angles.

4. Invest In The Right Moving Equipment

Picking up the right moving supplies will make moving heavy gym equipment significantly safer and easier. Furniture dollies and moving blankets are two pieces of moving equipment that are especially useful for handling heavy or bulky items. Dollies allow you to easily roll heavy items instead of carrying them, and moving blankets effectively protect surfaces from scratches, scuffs, and dents. When combined with safe lifting techniques and some helping hands, the right tools can make challenging moves far more manageable.

5. Know When To Call Professional Movers

Finally, know when to call our professional Florida movers for help. Some gym equipment may simply be too heavy, complex, or valuable to risk moving on your own. Our team of experienced movers has the training and equipment necessary to transport large belongings like fitness machines quickly and safely. Hiring professionals can save you significant time, stress, and energy. No matter how big or bulky a piece of gym equipment is, our movers have the muscle and experience to move it!
